Morocco's soccer squad tied, here Sunday, 0-0
with Togo in the third day of the combined
elimination round for the African Cup of Nations
(CAN) and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The overall performance of the Atlas Lions was
poor, missing a penalty in the first half.
Morocco had lost at home in the first round to
Gabon and tied 0-0 with Cameroon in the second
day, thus seems to have lost hope to be in South
Africa.

Belgian side Anderlecht appear to have cooled
their interest in Hibs midfielder Merouane
Zemmama.
The little Moroccan, who was loaned out to Al
Sha'ab by the Easter Road side last year, is
believed to have caught the eye of an Anderlecht
scout during an international match against
Cameroon.
However a statement posted on Anderlecht's
official club website, while confirming their
initial interest in Zemmama, also ruled out any
move for the player as he was 'too
expensive'.

League (GNF-1) after thrashing Chebab Mohammedia
(1-0).
Omar Najdi scored the goal of victory for the
green team in the 42nd minute. This is the ninth
title for Raja Casablanca after holding those of
1988, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2004.

Morocco coach Roger Lemerre has rung the changes
in his final 23-man squad for the vital 2010 FIFA
World Cup South Africa qualifiers in June.
Stung by their surprise defeat by Gabon in their
opening Group A match in March, Morocco have had a
clean-out of their squad for their next two
matches. The Atlas Lions meet Cameroon in Yaounde
on 7 June and then host Togo in Rabat on June 20.

Morocco's playmaker M'barek Boussoufa will
miss Morocco's forthcoming game in 2010 World
Cup/African Cup qualifiers against Cameroon due to
a double jaw fracture he sustained on Sunday.
The Anderlecht midfielder was carried to hospital
following a heavy collision with Standard de
Liege's goalkeeper in the 1-0 loss, which cost
his team the Belgian League title on the last day
of the season.
According to his entourage, the 24-year-old player
could not be on the pitch again for at least one
month.

Tunisia's Esperance won the Arab Champions
League with a late penalty for a 2-1 aggregate
victory over Wydad Casablanca after Thursday's
second leg at Rades.

minute to earn a 1-1 home draw against the
Moroccans, who Esperance beat 1-0 in Casablanca in
the first leg of the final on May 9.

Boussoufa has been named as Belgium's Player
of the Season as his side prepare for a title
play-off against R. Standard de Liège, yet he
said: "I am happy with the award but would
gladly trade it for the title."
The 24-year-old, who last week won the Ebony Boot
award for Belgium's best player of African
origin, was elected to his latest honour ahead of
KAA Gent's Bryan Ruiz and Standard's Dieu
Mbokani, with the votes coming from coaches and
fellow professionals in the Eerste Klasse.

named Dutch Player of the Season, ahead of FC

previously played for SBV Excelsior, Tottenham

Anderlecht's Moroccan international Mbark
Boussoufa has accused Belgian police of racially
mistreating him during an identity control.
Boussoufa was at a cafe near Brussel's Gare du
Midi train station when he was asked to produce
his passport by police on Sunday.
When he failed to produce the document he was
handcuffed and pinned to the floor before being
led off to a nearby police station, according to
witness accounts reported by local media.

Saturday made it through to the Arab Championships
League final after a 2-0 victory over
Tunisia's SC Sfax in the second leg of the
semi-finals.
Wydad's two goals were scored by Hicham Jouia
(55th) and Mustapha Bidodane (94th).
The two teams had tied 1-1 in the first leg on
April 12 in Sfax.

Morocco international striker Mounir El Hamdaoui
won the Dutch league title with AZ Alkmaar on
Sunday.
AZ Alkmaar were crowned champions for the first
time since 1981 after Ajax Amsterdam failed to
beat PSV Eindhoven.
El Hamdaoui's club are now 11 points clear of
second-placed Twente Enschede with three games to
spare.
